Robert Bonfils (1886 - 1972)

A Parisian, who began his artistic career just as Art Deco was starting to flourish, Bonfils combined the romance of the 19th century with the geometry of the 20th.

He soon established himself as an illustrator of merit and was a regular contributor to the deluxe fashion publications such as "Gazette du Bon Ton," "Journal des Dames et Des Modes," "Le Gout du Jour" and the 1922 edition of "Modes et Manieres d'Aujourd'hui."

His reputation for style earned him a commission to design a promotional poster for the celebrated 1925 Paris Exposition.
Bonfils was also an accomplished bookbinder, a skill that he used to enhance the books he also illustrated. Some of his titles include "La Maniere Francaise," 1917; and "Divertissements Des Princesses qui s'ennuient," 1918.
