Plates loose as issued inside Arches cover with folded flaps, printed in black with title on front cover; housed in brown cloth-covered cardboard box, with stamped and gilt lettering on spine.

Chagall illustrates Aragon's poetry in twenty-five original full-page color etchings with aquatint. While Aragon's verse is mainly a tribute to the painter, Chagall's original engravings focus on many of his favorite themes and exemplify his typically poetic and whimsical style.

From a total edition of 205; all signed in blue ink on the justification page by the artist and the author. Interior in beautiful condition, pages exceptionally clean and colors fresh.
