cover with title information and original medallion-shaped illustration;
housed in paper-covered folio printed with title information,
with intact interior decorative paper envelope; in mint condition,
very clean, original ribbon cut off but included in book.
An album of formal garden designs by landscape painter Raymond
Charmaison, featuring eight beautiful full-page plates bursting
with color (applied in pochoir by the master Jean Saudé).
The illustrations also include two vignettes, one cul-de-lampe
and a medallion-shaped color illustration on the front cover of
the wrapper.
This copy, moreover, features the original announcement by Meynial
(partially torn, in which the printer argues that "Les Jardins
Précieux" brings "the first note of modern art"
to garden design, just as another of his publications, "Les
Modes et Manières d'Aujourd'hui", had done for fashion.
In excellent condition, plates exceptionally clean and colors
very fresh; printed on Japon paper.
