Maurice
Gensoli (1892 - 1972)
|
In 1921 he worked as a decorator at Sevres and became head of the porcelain
studio in 1924. He exhibited decorative porcelain panels at the 1925 Paris
Exposition, and in 1928 he was named head of the design studio at Sevres,
where he stayed until 1959.
Under his influence, the pieces at Sevres included stylized waves, sea
shells, exotic animals, and human figures sculpted in a cubist style.
A very imaginative designer, he also understood a great deal about the
technical aspect of ceramics. He loved to use contrasts, as seen in the
texture of the clay and the sheen of the glaze, as if he were actually
"sculpting" the surface of the porcelain.
