Paul Iribe studied at the College Rollin and the Ecole Condorcet in Paris
and continued his education with an apprenticeship in typography at Le
Temps and began his career creating cartoons and illustrations for French
periodicals.
Iribe gained international prominence when he was selected to illustrate
the first deluxe fashion album for Paul Poiret in 1908 entitled "Les
Robes de Paul Poiret."
This hugely successful venture brought Iribe into the mainstream of fashion
illustration and he went on to contribute to other French fashion publications.
He later set up his own studio where he produced designs for furniture,
fabrics and wallpaper.
The lure of the cinema brought him to America in 1914, where he worked
for Cecil B. de Mille and others. About 15 years later he returned to
France and continued to illustrate books, periodicals and jewelry for
his friend Coco Chanel.
