Martin (1884 - 1934)

Charles Martin studied at the Montpelier Ecole des Beaux Arts, Academie
Julian and Ecole Des Beaux Arts, Paris. He established himself as a premier
graphic artist, posterist, fashion designer, ballet and theater set and
costume designer in the Art Deco style.
He was a regular contributor to the French fashion periodicals "Gazette
du Bon Ton," "Journal Des Dames et Des Modes," "Modes et
Manieres d'Aujourd'hui" and "Vogue."
His illustrated books include the deluxe hat catalogue "Les Modes en
1912 pour Marcel Demay," the erotic "Mascarades et Amusettes"
1920, and "Sports et Divertissements" 1919 in which he collaborated
with the composer Erik Satie.
Martin is considered the most Cubist in style of the major
Art Deco fashion illustrators.
