Charles Martin (1884 - 1934)

Charles Martin studied at the Montpelier Ecole des Beaux Arts, Academie Julian and Ecole Des Beaux Arts, Paris. He established himself as a premier graphic artist, posterist, fashion designer, ballet and theater set and costume designer in the Art Deco style.

He was a regular contributor to the French fashion periodicals "Gazette du Bon Ton," "Journal Des Dames et Des Modes," "Modes et Manieres d'Aujourd'hui" and "Vogue."

His illustrated books include the deluxe hat catalogue "Les Modes en 1912 pour Marcel Demay," the erotic "Mascarades et Amusettes" 1920, and "Sports et Divertissements" 1919 in which he collaborated with the composer Erik Satie.
Martin is considered the most Cubist in style of the major
Art Deco fashion illustrators.
