Following Poiret's catalogues illustrated by Iribe and Lepape, the
designer Marcelle Demay commissioned noted fashion illustrator Charles
Martin to document her 1912 hat collection. This charming album
features four original pochoir-colored illustrations of hats by
Martin and five photogravures of the actress Berthe Cerny wearing
Demay's creations. In a short preface, Demay explains that her collection
was designed with the concept of "the typical Parisian woman of
1912" in mind; as Berthe Cerny created the role of "La Parisienne"
at the Comédie Française that year, she was the perfect model.
In very good condition, plates clean and colors fresh.
