as issued in original paper wrapper with title printed on front;
housed in slipcase and chemise covered in blue, yellow and green
paper with title gilt on spine; overall in good condition, with
some wear to slipcase (splitting to top and bottom and some light

Paulhan's story is interpreted by Marc Chagall in ten typically
poetical and charming original color etchings. This is the very
first copy, made for the author, Jean Paulhan (from an edition of
112 nominative copies, 25 reserved for the artist and 16 for the
project's collaborators).
It is signed in blue pencil, on the justification page, by Chagall,
Paulhan and the director of the "Bibliophiles", Félia Leal. The
copper plates were scratched after the printing. Printed on Arches
vellum, the plates and text are very clean; interior overall excellent.
