Through the Mind of Salvador Dali

By Deborah Mayumba

I was staring at Dali's Cosmic Rays Resuscitating Soft Watches and thought to myself, "what is the meaning of this?"  Dali was known for incorporating many symbols and ideas into his works of art and this one in particular has his famous soft watches.  Knowing that Dali's soft watches are timeless and time is irrelevant in his dream scapes, I wonder what he had in mind with these watches.  Are the rays resuscitating the watches by helping them lean up on the rock formation?  Are they up against the rock in order to combat the incoming dragon from behind and the shield holding horseman from the front?  Could it be that the rays are helping the watches fight reality as represented by the horseman and dragon?  Who knows and we'll probably never know but I'm interested to see what your thoughts are on this.  Please feel free to leave a comment with your interpretation of this piece below.
