Life Imitating Art

By Deborah Mayumba

One of the great things about working in a rare art book and fine art gallery is that I get to do tons of research on the artists, styles and time periods we deal in.  Right now, I am in the process of researching Georges Lepape and Paul Iribe's influence on modern fashion illustration and stumbled upon a great blog post found at The Art of Dress.  In this post, Cassidy Zachary tells us more about the birth of modern fashion photography and how Lepape and Iribe were a major source of inspiration to Edward Steichen--the photographer who is considered to be the father of modern fashion photography.

If you know of any other facts pertaining to Iribe, Lepape, Steichen or fashion history in general, please leave a comment!  We'd love to hear from you.  And remember....

We currently have in our inventory, many fashion illustrative books including Lepape's Les Choses and Iribe's Les Robes.  If you are interested to learn more about our current offerings, drop us a line or come and visit us!

Fashion history's influence on today's fashions

By Deborah Mayumba on September 6, 2016

On this eve of NYC's fashion week, let's take a look at how yesterday's fashions influence todays trends.  First image:  fashion plates from 1920s fashion magazines, "Art. Gout. Beaute." and "Gazette Du Bon Ton."  Second image:  Reem Acra's Fall 2016 Collection.

To say I am excited about what is going to come down the runway this next week is an understatement.  I am giddy like little girl each time I notice a reinvented piece of fashion history coming down the runway.  If you too feel the same way, yet cannot commit to catching all of the vintage splendor sure to be trending these next few fashion filled days, pop back on over here as we will keep you updated on what oldschool details we catch down the catwalk.
