Paul Iribe
Les Robes de Paul Poiret

Paul Iribe, "Les Robes de Paul Poiret", 1908.
Paul Iribe
"Les Robes de Paul Poiret"
Paris: Chez La Société Générale d'Impression, 1908.

(12 3/4" x 11 3/4") 34pp. 10 illustrations (10 hors text.)
General condition: Good. Exterior: Rubbed. Interior: Clean.
Bound as issued into original decorated boards, with minor rubbing and usual darkening to front and edges; overall sound.

In 1908, Paul Poiret commissioned the little-known Paul Iribe to illustrate a publicity album of his couture collection for that year. Iribe's line drawings are highlighted with pochoir. Iribe's approach was to use empty backgrounds and unshaded blocks of color. Iribe also made the traditional "props" less important, giving greater importance to the brightly colored and boldly grouped figures. Poiret's styles indicate the new freedom in women's fashions and are precursors to the decoratve styles of the 1920's. This and the second album, illustrated by George Lepape, are today considered landmarks in the history of 20th century illustration and art deco design.

One of 250 unnumbered copies, this album is in very good condition, with some very minor stains to some pages, not affecting the images. In addition, this copy features an extremely rare signed dedication by Iribe, and dated February 1909.
