Andy
Warhol (1930 - 1987)
|
Considered to be the quintessential Pop Artist, Andy Warhol began his
formal education in his hometown of Pittsburgh at the Carnegie Institute
of Technology where he studied pictorial design. Warhol was active as
a commercial artist and gained tremendous recognition for his shoe advertisements.
In the late 1950's he began painting subjects taken from everyday items,
comics or trade labels. This evolved into more realistic images produced
in vast quantities using a silk screen process. Warhol went on to produce
films and "happenings" and became a larger than life fixture on the celebrity
circuit. His illustrated books include "25 Cats Named Sam," 1954;
"A Gold Book," 1957; "Wild Raspberries," 1959; "Andy
Warhol's Index Book," 1967.
